Aaron Ricketts has a reputation for exceeding expectations and being at the right place, at the right time. The Philly photographer is an internationally recognized visual artist who challenges himself and others to take a walk on the wild side.
Igniting his trailblazing path wasn’t easy for the 20-something-year-old, as he used the highs and lows that come with all journeys to master the art of resiliency.
“I’ve always had the mindset that if there is an issue, I can handle it,” Aaron Ricketts explains in an exclusive interview with Complex. “I don’t look at obstacles or adversities as problems. I look at them as challenges to be solved and that can be solved.”
Ricketts’ positivity allowed him to quickly transition from known-unknown to global artist whose work goes straight to the top. In fact, he’s the man responsible for the legendary shot of Offset proposing to Cardi B at New York City’s Powerhouse venue. The photo immediately went viral, elevating the hip-hop power couple’s fame, and cementing Ricketts as a force in the industry.
“I realize that that [photo] was a moment much bigger than myself and I had to do everything in my power to capture what was going on,” he tells us.
For some, the instant fame and a sizable payday are licenses to relax. But in Ricketts' case, the big break has only made him hungrier.
