Michelle Wolf on Sarah Huckabee Sanders: 'She Has the Mario Batali of Personalities'

The comedian takes another jab at the White House Press Secretary.

On Sunday, Michelle Wolf debuted the first episode of her new Netflix series The Break with Michelle Wolf. Those familiar with Wolf, thanks to the controversy she stirred up at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in April, may recognize one of the targets of Wolf’s debut, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders.

In case you missed it, Wolf made a joke about Sanders’ eyeshadow during the WHCD. That joke set off critics claiming the comedian took a low blow at Sanders’ looks when in reality Wolf’s joke criticized the press secretary’s tendency to lie about everything. The joke went like this: “I actually really like Sarah. I think she’s very resourceful. But she burns facts and then she uses that ash to create a perfect smoky eye. Like, maybe she’s born with it, maybe it’s lies. It’s probably lies.”

During her new show, Wolf clarified once again that her comments at the WHCD had nothing to do with Sanders’ looks, but rather her “ugly personality.” “She has the Mario Batali of personalities,” Wolf said during a segment called “Sports Smash.”

Despite its name, the segment is ironically all about feminism. During "Sports Smash," Wolf posed the question, “do women have to support other women?” To which she quickly answered “No, of course not!” and proceeded to discuss the recent appointment of Gina Haspel as the new CIA director. Wolf then brought up a tweet from Sanders, who argued that Democrats not supporting Haspel are hypocrites.

“Well, if anyone’s an expert on hypocrites, it’s Sarah Huckabee Sanders,” Wolf said. “And for the record, that was not a looks-based joke. That was about her ugly personality.”

The specific Batali comment references a segment earlier in the show where Wolf spent a few minutes roasting the disgraced chef's physical appearance, which could be mean, but he is currently under investigation for multiple accounts of rape, so who cares?

New episodes of The Break air every Sunday on Netflix.
