Leaked Video and Photos From Alleged 'Game of Thrones' Set Promises Game-Changing Spoilers

Would HBO and 'Game of Thrones' producers really have been this sloppy?

I don’t know the exact statistics on this, but there are probably millions upon millions of people counting the minutes until the final season of Game of Thrones premieres sometime in 2019. The anticipation is wild, which makes spoilers about the notoriously secretive show all the more intriguing.

Social media is going wild today after a popular Game of Thrones fansite may have discovered a huge season 8 eight spoiler that could potentially shed new light on what will happen in 2019 all the while throwing the entire show up in the air. We know the ending will be “bittersweet," but just how bitter are showrunners willing to make it?

If the above wasn’t enough to tip you off, the rest of this post will discuss major potential spoilers for the final season of Game of Thrones, and will also discuss some events that occurred in season 7. Do not keep reading if you do not want to read, see, or even think about potential spoilers. Don't say I didn’t warn you.

The Game of Thrones fansite Watchers on the Wall published some pretty fiery footage on its Facebook page last night: namely, it looks like the set of Winterfell has gone totally up in flames.

If this really means what everyone thinks it means, then it's confirmation that Winterfell will certainly fall in season 8. To be completely honest, that isn’t the most shocking revelation, as the final scenes of season 7 saw the Night King’s army finally closing in on Winterfell. But there’s some importance to the way it’s falling: the fire may point to how it falls and who orders the attack. It could be the green wildfire we saw Cersei unleash in the season 6 finale, “The Winds of Winter,” in a pre-CGI state. Maybe she has some leftover?

While we’re considering CGI, perhaps the fire will turn blue as the Night King with his handy blue-flame-spewing undead dragon Viserion finally reaches Winterfell. Could Daenerys and her two remaining dragons have something to do with this? Plus, was there anyone in Winterfell when it went up in flames? Another admittedly less likely possibility is that the cast finished filming all their Winterfell scenes and decided to torch it as a fun way to say goodbye to the set. Who knows?

Whatever happens, if these images are to be believed, we will finally learn what happens when there is no longer a Stark in Winterfell—unless Winterfell was the friends we made along the way and it will forever remain in Sansa, Arya, and Jon’s hearts.

Belfast Live corroborated the fire scene, adding that it looks like the flames were part of a “huge battle scene involving 400 to 500 extras.” That’s on par with the amount of extras for the epic "Battle of the Bastards" fight back in season 6, and would seem to be keeping with the grandiosity required for a finale season of Game of Thrones. The fiery set was in Toomebridge, a small village in Northern Ireland, and a fire service spokesman confirmed that firefighters were called to the scene but ultimately did not have to do anything. “We did receive a call last night at 7.24 pm to an incident on the Rougery Road, Toomebridge, Magherafelt,” the spokesman said. "Two fire appliances from Magherafelt Fire Station attended the incident however no action was taken as the incident was dealt with on site."

Finally, remember that HBO made some pretty wild claims last year about the lengths they would go to in order to keep Game of Thrones spoilers under wraps. They explicitly said they would film multiple versions of the finale despite having no interest in using all of them in the show just to tip off fans of the show who might snap a photo such as this and share it like wildfire on social media. This latest “spoiler” could have HBO execs, showrunners D.B Weiss and David Benioff, and all the cast and crew laughing all the way to the bank at us sheeple.
