Rose McGowan's Twitter Account Limited After Weinstein Comments: 'There Are Powerful Forces at Work' (UPDATE)

McGowan has been outspoken about the Weinstein Company in recent days, even calling for the entire board to be dissolved.

UPDATED: Twitter is now claiming they "temporarily locked" McGowan's account because "one of her tweets included a private phone number." It is not clear, exactly, whose phone number was included, or whether the tweet was an original tweet or a retweet.

Meanwhile, an account operated by a deranged reality TV star who has previously tweeted neo-Nazi imagery and memes depicting reporters being hit by trains remains active. McGowan made note of this in her first tweet since having her account unlocked, asking the social media platform when they would start considering the threat of nuclear war a violation of their terms of service.

Get your shit together, Twitter.

Rose McGowan's Twitter account was temporarily limited Wednesday night. McGowan, who has been outspoken on Twitter about dissolving the entire Weinstein Company board in recent days, shared a screenshot of the temporary account limitations warning she received with her 466,000 Instagram followers.

When users are hit with a temporary limitation of account features, they are only able to send direct messages. Tweets, retweets, and likes are not allowed. Unlike a full-on account suspension, a temporary limitation does not result in the account disappearing from search results. According to the message McGowan received, "full functionality" will be restored within 12 hours once the tweets they claim violated their rules are deleted.

The exact tweets Twitter claims violated their rules are not known, but McGowan's recent activity has centered on the wave of sexual harassment and rape allegations against Harvey Weinstein, who co-founded the Weinstein Company with his brother Bob in 2005. Recent investigative pieces from the New York Times and the New Yorkerrevealed decades of alleged harassment and assault. In audio released by the New Yorker, Weinstein is heard admitting to groping model Ambra Battilana Gutierrez. "Don't ruin your friendship with me for five minutes," Weinstein is heard telling Gutierrez in the recording, which was captured as part of an NYPD sting.

In October 2016, McGowan—who reportedly reached a settlement with Weinstein in 1997 following what the Times described as "an episode in a hotel room" during Sundance—revealed that an unnamed ex "sold our movie to my rapist for distribution."

In recent days, McGowan has been sharing a petition calling for the Weinstein Company board to be dissolved:

In short, Twitter will limit an outspoken actor's account privileges while she's using the platform to take a stand against sexual assault. Neo-Nazis and fascists, however, are apparently fine?
