Kanye West often pitches ideas on Twitter like his possible 2024 presidential bid, wanting to teach courses at the Art Institute of Chicago and the American Academy of Art, and furniture ideas for IKEA. While these haven't materialized, one of Ye's latest thoughts just might make it to the real world.
"We should be able to participate in social media without having to show how many followers or likes we have," read a recent tweet from 'Ye. "Just like how we can turn off the comments we should be able to turn off the display of followers. This has an intense negative impact on our self worth."
He also posted another tweet criticizing social media with a link to an interview with Denzel Washington advising young people to stay away from apps.
Just a few hours later, West shared a message from Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey that seems to support West's ideas.
"We've been thinking deeply about the follower and like counts, and what that incentivizes," read the message, that was shared with Dorsey's permission. "We want to change. What made sense 12 years ago doesn't' make sense today. At least for us. Us making that number bold and big incentivized people to want to increase it, and feel bad if they couldn't. That's not right. We want to incentivize contribution to the global conversation and consciousness."
But while Dorsey figures out his next moves for the social media app, 'Ye will be pretty busy. He's working on a new project with Chance the Rapper, titled Good Ass Job, and is slated to release his ninth solo album, Yandhi, next week. The drop will be accompanied by a performance on Saturday Night Live.
