Reps for Cardi B's Ex-Manager Shaft Respond to Her $15 Million Countersuit

"The outright lies and distortions in her claims make you shake your head," the statement said.

Cardi B's former manager, Klenord Raphael a.k.a. Shaft, says the countersuit against him is “outright lies and distortions.”

On Monday, Shaft's reps released a statement slamming the superstar's countersuit. "The facts are simple - Cardi B’s music, image, and rise to superstardom were all developed and executed by Shaft and his team of writers and producers," the statement read. "The outright lies and distortions in her claims make you shake your head. This is just more of the same campaign by Cardi B and her team to defame and injure Shaft, the one person who saw promise in her, invested time and resources in her, and succeeded in making her rich and famous."

Back in March, news that Cardi B signed a management deal with Quality Control began circulating. That led to a $10 million lawsuit being leveled against her by her former manager, Shaft. You can get caught up on that here, but the short of it is that he alleges that Cardi engaged in a breach of contract, unjust enrichment, and defamation, among other things. The "Bodak Yellow" rapper responded by saying Shaft's firing was justified because he was allegedly skimming large amounts of money from her by telling her she was earning less than she was.

Then, a few months later (see: last week) Cardi announced that she was countersuing Shaft for $15 million because (as she claims) he was enriching himself against her best interests, while also trying to control her career and personal life.

Previously, Cardi contended that her ex-manager's 20 percent commission was too much, and that he tried to secure 50 percent of her deal with Sony. Cardi also says that he put up "barriers between her and people close to her in an effort to maintain complete control over her," which allegedly included gate-keeping of who she could and could not see romantically.
