In wake of the growing #Me Too and Time’s Up movements, a number of entertainment figures have faced severe professional consequences—most notably, Bill Cosby and Harvey Weinstein; however, there are many other high-profile celebrities who’ve been able to retain a loyal following despite their well-known controversies.

For instance, Kanye West has secured many wins since making questionable statements about Donald Trump and the history of American slavery; and the late XXXTentacion has received a wave of support since his fatal shooting earlier this week, even though he was facing a number of abuse charges at the time of his death.

So why is it that certain controversial celebrities are immune to career-ending condemnation, while others are immediately “canceled”? And can we truly separate “the art” from “the artist”? Complex News’ Pierce Simpson explores this issue in the video above.
