Birkenstock's traveling mobile retail concept space hits Los Angeles in April, bringing with it a collaboration with Rick Owens.

The Birkenstock Box will lay down temporary roots in front of the Rick store on La Brea Avenue following similarly ephemeral stops in New York and Berlin. The Box is built using converted freight containers, inside of which visitors will find distinctive elements of both brands' visual styles. "I like a steady original invested in the long game," Owens said in a press release. For the Los Angeles edition of the Box, the interior has been designed by Owens himself and will incorporate "the retail design elements" found in the Rick store in New York.

In addition to a limited run of Birkenstock styles, the Box will also feature an assortment of Rick pieces ranging from furniture to legwear. The bespoke Rick Owens x Birkenstock, featuring a full leather foot bed, will launch across each of both brands' channels from April 17. Pre-orders being April 2.

The Rick partnership marks Birkenstock's first foray into collaborating with individual designers. Oliver Reichert, Birkenstock's chief executive, toldBusiness of Fashion Tuesday that the multi-hyphenate's proven skills in a variety of disciplines as crucial to the collab. "Just a fashion designer would be less relevant," Reichert said. "Rick Owens, however, is different. We collaborated in architecture, design, and fashion."

If you're in the Los Angeles area, be sure to hit the Birkenstock Box at the Rick Owens store on La Brea on April 17.
