Life has been crazy for Los Angeles Lakers fans since Sunday night, when LeBron James announced—after more than a year of speculation—that he was indeed signing with the Lake Show. Since free agency opened, the Lakers have added Lance Stephenson, JaVale McGee, and Rajon Rondo, allowed Julius Randle to bolt to New Orleans, and re-signed Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (for way too much money!).
What could make L.A.'s offseason even crazier? How about signing Dwight Howard?
The veteran center, who was recently traded from Charlotte to Brooklyn, is interested in returning to L.A., per USA Today's Sam Amick, who recently appeared on the Hoops Hype podcast.
In addition to the Pelicans and Warriors, Dwight Howard is interested in returning to the Lakers, according to Sam Amick. "He’d like to play with LeBron [James]," Amick said on The HoopsHype Podcast. "That’s definitely on his radar." It's unclear if the interest is mutual.
As Hoops Hype's Alex Kennedy noted, it would be surprising if the Nets elected to hold onto Howard. He will all but certainly take a buyout. It's also important to reiterate that we don't know if the Lakers actually want Howard—just that such a move is on his radar.
Howard previously played for the Lakers for one season after spending the first eight years of his career in Orlando. That 2012-13 season was a disaster, as Dwight butted heads with Kobe Bryant and turned into one of the league's more polarizing players. L.A. launched a #StayD12 campaign at the conclusion of the season, but he opted to sign with the Houston Rockets—that stop didn't go so well either.
