It's been a year and a half since the world lost boxing legend Muhammad Ali, but his legacy, values, and imprint on culture will never be forgotten—especially by the ones who knew him best.

In a touching Instagram tribute, Laila Ali remembered her late father not only as her parent, but someone who was called to do something great during his time on Earth. On his birthday (Jan. 17), the undefeated former women's boxing champ posted a series of family photos with her dad, writing, “We all loved him so much, but he did not belong to us. We were blessed to have him for a while, but he is in a better place now! Sending love and light to all of those who have lost a parent, child, friend, mate or anyone else who had your heart.”

Muhammad Ali passed away on June 3, 2016 at the age of 74 after battling a respiratory condition.
