Sharon Tate's Sister Says Tarantino's Manson Movie 'Is Not What People Would Expect'

Quentin Tarantino's 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,' starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt, is set to drop next July. After a meeting with the director, Sharon Tate's sister says she now believes his intentions are good.

Debra Tate, the sister of the late actress Sharon Tate, says Quentin Tarantino's upcoming Manson family murders movie isn't what you think.

According to a TMZreport filed Sunday, Debra was recently approached by Tarantino in an effort to 'break the ice" regarding her worries of how the subject matter might be handled in one his most anticipated projects ever, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Following the meeting, Debra now believes that Tarantino's intentions are good. "This movie is not what people would expect it to be when you combine the Tarantino and Manson names," she told TMZ, adding that Tarantino heard her concerns and that she was happy to learn that the release date no longer fell on what would have been the anniversary of the Manson family murders.

The two will meet again to go through the script and—once shooting has wrapped—a screening, as Debra still has a few reservations to work through. For now, however, she's seemingly given Tarantino’s predictably controversial project her blessing.

Last month, Al Pacino joined the already stacked film's cast in the role of talent agent Marvin Shwarz. One of Shwarz's clients is Rick Dalton, a struggling actor played by previous Tarantino collaborator Leonardo DiCaprio. Brad Pitt, Burt Reynolds, Emile Hirsch, Dakota Fanning, Damian Lewis, and Luke Perry are among the film's already confirmed cast. Margot Robbie, who previously starred alongside DiCaprio in Martin Scorsese's The Wolf of Wall Street, will play Sharon Tate. The Sony Pictures-distributed film opens July 26, 2019.
