During a panel at Comic-Con this weekend, Ryan Reynolds expressed his desire to explore Deadpool’s sexuality in future films and include more LGBTQ characters in the hero’s universe.

As Variety points out, Deadpool’s alter-ego Wade Wilson is a self-described pansexual, and Reynolds wants his character to expand on that identity even more in the future.

“I certainly think that this universe...needs to represent and reflect the world in very real ways,” the actor said, responding to a fan asking if future Deadpool movies will include more queer characters. “The great thing about Deadpool is that we’re allowed to do things that other superhero movies don’t necessarily do. It’s something that I’d love to see more of, certainly through Wade, certainly through this universe because it’s something that we’re building out more.”

When asked, the merc’s co-creator Fabian Nicieza tweeted about his sexuality back in 2015. "Deadpool is whatever sexual inclination his brain tells him he is in THAT moment. And then the moment passes,” he wrote.

Aside from Wade Wilson, Deadpool 2 did depict Negasonic Teenage Warhead in a lesbian relationship following actress Brianna Hildebrand’s request.

While at Comic-Con, Reynolds also promoted the blu-ray version of Deadpool 2, featuring an extended cut with scenes of the vigilante “contemplating killing baby Hitler,” according to Variety. He also attempts to team up with Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine.

The extended cut of Deadpool 2 comes out on digital platforms August 7 and on blu-ray August 21.
