Netflix Just Made On-the-Go Binge-Watching Easier Than Ever

Netflix is revamping its download feature, adding a tweak that automatically trashes episodes of a show you've already watched and downloads the next one.

Netflix's download option, now in its third year of existence, is receiving a binge-easing makeover.

As Deadlinereported Tuesday morning while the world woke up to yet another day of abject misery, a fresh Smart Downloads setup will further uncomplicate the process by automatically trashing episodes of series you've already seen. Once you connect to WiFi, Netflix will then automatically download the next episode of whatever series—let's say Frasier—you've been relentlessly bingeing.

"We know how annoying it can be to go through all your apps and delete files you no longer need; we also understand that when it comes to Netflix, the faster you can get to the next episode you want to watch, the better," Cameron Johnson, Netflix's Director of Product Innovation, said in a press release. Control of the new feature still lies with the user, as—should you choose to do so—you can turn it off and enjoy downloads the old-fashioned and inherently more annoying way too. For now, Smart Downloads will be Android-only and only includes items of the series variety.

New to Netflix this month is the latest season of Orange Is the New Black, a fresh batch of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, Somebody Feed Phil: The Second Course, Shameless season 8, and more. Before you Smart Download any of those, however, this otherwise knowledgeless writer recommends you dive into as many consecutive episodes as you possibly can of Bill Nye Saves the World. Though the science-based series doesn't make good on its name, as this planet is simply too far gone, it does make our time here pass with a little less dread.
