Back in February, Magnolia Pictures announced it had picked up the rights to Skate Kitchen starring Jaden Smith from director Crystal Moselle. Now we’re getting a first look at the summer drama about friends, young love, and of course, skateboarding.

The film debuted at Sundance this year and stars members of the real-life all-girl skate crew dubbed the Skate Kitchen, featuring Rachelle Vinberg, Dede Lovelace, Nina Moran, Ajani Russell, and Kabrina Adams.

In the trailer, we see Vinberg's crew-forming character Camille fighting with her mother over skating and pulling hijinks with her friends as they ride around the streets of New York City. Things get complicated when Camille begins falling for Jaden Smith’s character, a skater from another crew, and drama ensues when her girlfriends catch her skating with the boys. Camille mulls over her loyalties, while the girls of Skate Kitchen try to brush off the male skate crews that try to intimidate them.

This film is Moselle’s follow-up to her documentary The Wolfpack, a 2015 Sundance U.S. Documentary Grand Prize winner. “Crystal Moselle has proven in impressive style that The Wolfpack was no fluke,” Magnolia president Eamonn Bowles said in February. “Everything about ‘Skate Kitchen’ is so fresh and compelling—the cast, the skateboarding, and the way she makes us look at New York City with new eyes.”

Watch the preview above. Skate Kitchen slides into theaters Aug. 10.
