Emilia Clarke Says Goodbye to 'Game of Thrones': 'It's Been a Trip'

'Game of Thrones' may be coming to an end in 2019, but HBO is already deep into the spin-off game. Still, for stars like Emilia Clarke, this is truly the end of 'Thrones.'

With its eighth season set to premiere at some point next year, Game of Thrones is wisely taking the Costanza route of leaving on a high note. Still, saying goodbye to a pop culture maelstrom of this magnitude isn't easy. Just ask star Emilia Clarke.

"Hopped on a boat to an island to say goodbye to the land that has been my home away from home for almost a decade," Clarke said on Instagram Sunday. The Solo: A Star Wars Story star also thanked her series family for providing her with "the life I never dreamed I'd be able to live."

Previously, Clarke described the complicated emotions involved with saying goodbye to a character. "It fucked me up," she toldVanity Fair. "Knowing that is going to be a lasting flavor in someone's mouth of what Daenerys is."

Though Thrones is indeed signing off for good with season 8 in 2019, HBO is already quite invested in the spin-off market. As A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin explained last week, however, not all of the spin-offs you've been reading about will actually make it to TV. "We do have an entire world and tens of thousands of years of history to play with, after all," he said in a blog post. "But this is television, so nothing is certain." Indeed.
