Emilia Clarke Thinks HBO Doesn't Even Trust 'Game of Thrones' Actors With Series Ending

Your guess over who ends up on the Iron Throne is as good as Emilia Clarke's, apparently.

Emilia Clarke’s Daenerys Targaryen is undoubtedly one of the most recognizable and iconic roles in the Game of Thrones canon. She—and her lineage—are the backbone of the show, only made more significant because her performance has been stellar, with three Emmy nominations to show for it. And yet HBO is still not trusting her, or any of her castmates, with the secrets of how the show ends.

In a new The Hollywood Reporter interview, Clarke revealed that HBO’s notorious secretive moves to avoid spoilers have made it so she literally doesn’t know who will end up on the Iron Throne. She’s read scripts, of course, but still isn’t entirely sure of how things will work out.

“I think they're filming a bunch of stuff and they're not telling us. I'm being serious. I'm being deadly serious,” she said. “I think that they don't even trust us."

"There's lots of different endings that could happen,” she said, echoing HBO’s president of programming who revealed last year that the show would film multiple endings to ward off spoilers. “I think we're doing all of them and we aren't being told which is actually what's going to happen."

Still, though, the show has represented a lot to Clarke. She says that Daenerys Targaryen’s transformation, which was her first major role as an actress, "is the greatest gift [she’s] been given as an actor, 100 percent.”

"It's incredibly emotional, this final season that we're in the middle of right now," she says. "I truly get really emotional just even thinking about the end of the show [because] what you're leaving behind is everything that has happened to me in my 20s—10 years of my life was woven within the show. You know, there's so much that's happened to all of us, and you're walking away from all of that."

”Daenerys is so much a part of who I am, and I am so much a part of who she is, so it's this incredibly frightening thing to walk away from,” she said.  “But at the same time, unbelievably exciting."

At least one of the reasons why it’s exciting is that Clarke will now have more time to devote to other projects. Most recently, she stars alongside Donald Glover and Alden Ehrenreich inSolo: A Star Wars Story. If you’re a fan of her in that role, then you’ll be happy to know that she confirmed to THR that she has signed up to do multiple more Star Wars, although she has no idea what those roles look like. "I think it's like an insurance thing," she explains.

“I’m pretty fatalistic about this industry,” Clarke said about her desire to keep acting in new roles in new projects. "I think that what's doing so good today maybe isn't gonna do so good tomorrow, so why not grab it with both hands and live it?"
