Family sitcom Roseanne got a reboot and 18.2 million people tuned in for the first episode on Tuesday night, even beating 60 Minutes's interview with Stormy Daniels.
In the series reboot, which scores a 5.1 rating in the 18 to 49 age range, Roseanne Barr plays a Trump supporter, which reflects her own personality in real-life. On top of her vocal support for Agent Orange, Barr has been wrapped up conspiracy theories (like "Pizzagate," "Pedogate" and the death of DNC staffer Seth Rich) as well as troubling transphobic comments.
According to NBC News, Donald Trump himself called Roseanne to congratulate her. During an interview on Thursday morning, Barr told Good Morning America that the call was "pretty exciting" to experience. The conversation, she added, was focused on her rather than the show's high ratings, which Trump *totally* understands from working as a producer (and head creep) on The Apprentice.
This isn't a shock though. The Root reminds us all not to be surprised that the show glorifies and normalizes white working-class "Make America Great Again" hype.
And unfortunately, Roseanne isn't going away anytime soon, either. Deadline reports from this week's success alone, the show has already been renewed for a second season.
