Looks Like 'Game of Thrones' Star Peter Dinklage Will Appear in 'Avengers: Infinity War'

As the time between us and Avengers: Infinity War gets shorter and shorter, we should expect a few more surprises—the electrifying trailer was released today, for example. In general, though, the larger points of the movie are pretty much set in stone by this point. The huge cast, which will encompass pretty much every Marvel superhero we’ve met so far in the MCU, will join forces to fight against Thanos and make sure he does not get the infinity stones. If that wasn't enough, then you’ll probably be happy to know there might be one more surprise in store. It looks like Peter Dinklage, who plays Tyrion Lannister on Game of Thrones, is definitely in the movie, even though we don’t know anything about his role.

In January 2017, rumors began circling that Peter Dinklage was being eyed for a "key role" on Infinity War, but no further details about his role were revealed. Most importantly, neither Marvel or Dinklage himself confirmed the rumors.

However, the official Infinity War movie poster was released this morning, and some keen-eyed fans noticed something in the tiny fine-print at the bottom of the poster. The Infinity War cast is admittedly huge, but funnily enough, in the middle of the cast names, there’s "Peter Dinklage." Still, this doesn’t offer any clues about who Dinklage will appear as in the movie. He could be playing a superhero, or his performance could be a kind of motion capture performance, or perhaps even just his voice.

There are, of course, many theories as to who Dinklage could be playing. One theory is that the Game of Thrones star will portray the Black Order, Thanos’ dangerous warrior children. If this is true, he might be playing Cull Obsidian, Corvus Glaive, or Ebony Maw. About that last character, that role is rumored to be played by Tom Vaughan-Lawlor, according to ComicBook.

Alternatively, fans will remember that Dinklage played Trask in X-Men: Days of Future Past back in 2014. The X-Men are owned by Fox, but Disney has made moves to buy Fox, thereby regaining control of those characters. In an interview about Black Panther, Marvel President Kevin Feige said Marvel would certainly be excited to have those characters back under their wing, but the deal has yet to go through. If Dinklage is reprising his Days of Future Past role, though, it would be the first real connection between the two universes, which is an exciting enough prospect even if it seems unlikely. 

Avengers: Infinity War will hit theaters on April 27.
