Maisie Williams is still hard at work filming the last season of Game of Thrones, and although she’s not giving away any secrets, she did stop by Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Tuesday night to say as much as she could about the process of filming the end of the huge HBO drama.
Williams started out saying that filming the final season of Game of Thrones is a “mammoth task,” and there is still an endless amount of shooting. Williams—who found herself in some hot water after potentially revealing the top-secret release date of season 8 before HBO did—remained tight-lipped about other details of the show, although she did find a way to gloat about the fact that she is one of the relatively tiny number of people who knows how Game of Thrones will end. For the rest of us, we'll have to wait until sometime in 2019 to discover.
“It’s surreal, being with the show for so long, and then it also having the following that it does, everyone’s waiting for this moment,” Williams said about the ending. “And then you read it and it’s incredible.”
It would be hard to imagine a star of the show saying nothing different, but in any case, season 8 looks like it’s shaping up to be epic. Williams’ sentiments are echoed by co-stars Kit Harrington, who said the final season will be the biggest one yet, and former fellow cast member Jason Momoa, who went so far as to say the season will “fuck up a lot of people.”
Kimmel brought up the fact that the HBO president of programming, Casey Bloys, had arranged for multiple endings to be filmed in order to tip off any leaks or spoilers for those who live nearby the show’s sets. Williams replied that she didn’t know if that was really a go because she wasn’t sure they had the budget for that kind of operation. Plus, “as we know, sometimes presidents don’t tell the truth,” Williams said, in a pointed jab to President Trump, whom she’s called out before.
Williams also took the opportunity to speak about her latest project, the claymation movie Early Man—produced by the same animation studio as Wallace and Gromit—in which she stars alongside Eddie Redmayne, Tom Hiddleston and Timothy Spall.
