Kim Kardashian, who welcomed a new baby girl into her family on Monday, is speaking out about the experience of using a surrogate to carry her third child for her. Kim carried and gave birth to her other two children, North and Saint, but both pregnancies were complicated. Due to a high risk of health issues like placenta accreta and preeclampsia, which could spell trouble for both the mother and the baby, Kim decided to opt for a surrogate this time around. But, according to her, it wasn’t an easy experience.

“Having a gestational carrier is definitely different, but anyone who says or thinks it’s the easy way out is completely wrong,” Kim wrote in a letter published on her website on Thursday, Page Six reports. “People assume it’s better because you don’t have to deal with the physical changes, pain or complications with delivery, but for me it was so hard to not carry my own child, especially after I carried North and Saint.”

“I’m so grateful for modern technology and that this is even possible,” she continued. “It’s not for everyone, but I absolutely love my gestational carrier and this was the best experience I’ve ever had. Our gestational carrier gave us the greatest gift one could give.”

“The connection with our baby came instantly and it’s as if she was with us the whole time,” she wrote. “We are so excited to finally welcome home our baby girl.”

Kim has spoken about this issue in the past. On an episode of her reality show Keeping Up With the Kardashians, she said that while she was “grateful” for her surrogate, someone who she called “selfless and kind,” Kim also admitted that it was “frustrating to not be able to do it on your own.”

"It is a weird dynamic. I go to all the doctor's appointments and I try to be really present, but when you're not carrying it yourself it is such a fine balance of how much you're going to be in their lives,” she said on the show. “But I really trust my surrogate and I don't want to be that person that's trying to control her every move."

So far, there has been great interest but no word yet on what Kimye’s new baby girl will be named. Fans had plenty of suggestions—including one that Kanye particularly liked—but it looks like we’ll just have to wait, or keep frantically analyzing social media for clues.
