Despite being one of 2018's most anticipated films, the details regarding Sony's Venom film starring Tom Hardy as the Spidey anti-hero have been under some pretty tight wraps. Finally, there is a first look at Hardy's depiction of the terrifying villain, but it might not exactly be what you have been expecting.

IGN has released the first official still from the movie that shows Hardy as main character Eddie Brock before he transforms into his fearsome black and white Venom form.

While the photo might seem like a bit of a letdown compared to what could have potentially been revealed, Entertainment Weekly was able to decipher what it says in Brock's journal while he is out reporting for The Daily Globe. The pages include questions like "So how exactly does the Life Foundation go about testing its pharmaceuticals?" and "What about the allegations your empire is built on?"

As an explanation, Entertainment Weekly writes, "The Life Foundation appeared in the comics as an organization believing that the Cold War would culminate in a nuclear holocaust. So, to protect their wealthy clients, its leaders constructed a bunker for them to wait it out."

Last time we got a silver screen adaptation of Venom, it was the abysmal Topher Grace version from Sam Raimi's Spider Man 3.

Venom is directed by Ruben Fleischer and will also star Riz Ahmed and Michelle Williams. It is set to hit theaters Oct. 5, 2018. Until then, here's a message from Fleischer and Hardy that first aired exclusively at Brazil Comic Con. Hardy tells fans, " "I just wanted to say that I give you my word of honor that I’m going to do everything that I can to deliver the best Venom that I possibly can muster."
