Walt Disney Studios is having a great year. How great? $6 billion worth of great, Deadlinereports. The film studio is set to reach the milestone Friday and it's not even its biggest year.
The studio has gotten a sizable push to the $6 billion mark from Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which has so far brought in the considerable sum of $610.5 million. Walt Disney Studios is the only film studio to reach the $6 billion threshold. They previously achieved it last year, hitting the even higher number of $7.6 billion. It's also the studio's fifth consecutive year of making more than $5 billion globally.
A slew of extremely successful and profitable films have catapulted the studio to achieving multi-billion dollar sales.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story made $309.3 million of a global $1.05 billion while Moana made $252 million of a global $643.3 million.
Disney's Beauty and the Beast remake starring Emma Watson, which opened back in March of 2017, has grossed an impressive $1.263 billion.
If the past few years have been any indication, and factoring in their recent intent to acquire 21st Century Fox, Walt Disney Studios will probably continue making obscene amount of money in 2018.
