This post-Insecure world we're living in is the perfect time for Netflix to unleash She's Gotta Have It, Spike Lee's first television series based on his 1986 classic of the same name. While a sneak peek was released back in July, we've not heard much about Spike's modern update into Nola Darling's non-traditional relationships, but based on the new trailer (which you can watch above), it looks like Spike's perfectly adapted his first feature-length film into an examination of freedom.

For those who are unaware, Nola Darling is juggling three relationships with three very different men. While a woman in her position would be considered a "slut," she's far from it: she's exploring life and what makes her happy, which just happens to be different things from the three men she deals with. Think about it: what you'd get from an immature sneakerhead is different from the dapper gentleman that's different from the pretty boy. Without saying she's exclusive, she's free to roam and explore. Right? That's the question this series will explore.

It's dope to see archival footage of Spike as Mars Blackmon in the original before being introduced to DeWanda Wise, who is this generation's Nola Darling. She's Gotta Have It premieres on Nov. 23, 2017 (Thanksgiving Day), and is directed entirely by Spike Lee.
