UPDATED 3:33 p.m. ET: Lindsay Lohan released a statement Wednesday afternoon after receiving backlash for her defense of Harvey Weinstein. "I am saddened to hear about the allegations against my former colleague Harvey Weinstein," Lohan told the Daily Mail. "As someone who has lived their life in the public eye, I feel that allegations should always be made to the authorities and not played out in the media. I encourage all women who believe Harvey harmed them to report their experiences to the relevant authorities."

There aren’t very many people who are rushing to the defense of Harvey Weinstein right now—and for very good reason. In reports released by The New York Times and The New Yorker over the course of the last week, Weinstein has been accused of sexually assaulting and harassing numerous women over the course of the last few decades. He has since been fired from the company he started, The Weinstein Company, and on Tuesday, Weinstein’s wife Georgina Chapman revealed that she has decided to file for divorce from him. The world has turned against him.
But for whatever reason, Lindsay Lohan has decided that she’s not ready to turn her back on Weinstein just yet. Lohan, who has worked with Weinstein on several occasions in the past, took to Instagram on Tuesday night from her home in Dubai to inexplicably defend the Hollywood producer.
"I feel very bad for Harvey Weinstein right now," Lohan said in the video. "I don’t think it’s right what’s going on."
Lohan also sent a message to Weinstein’s wife. She said she believes Chapman should "take a stand and be there for her husband" in light of the allegations that have been made against him.
And Lohan ended her message by letting everyone know that, while she has worked closely with Weinstein, she was never subjected to any of the sexual harassment that other women have claimed happened while working with him.
"He’s never harmed me or did anything to me," she said. "We’ve done several movies together. I think everyone needs to stop. I think it’s wrong. So stand up."
Lohan wisely deleted the video featuring her defending Weinstein a short time after it went up. But it’s been making the rounds on social media on Wednesday morning, and her name has been trending on Twitter ever since. We'll have to wait for an explanation as to why she thought it was a good idea to defend Weinstein at this time.
