In my opinion, it's Curb season and nothing else matters. Not even Game of Thrones. I'm sure actual Thrones, however, would very much disagree. Ahead of the start of production of the final Thrones season, the cast has been dropping tiny glimpses into the full-blown cinematic approach HBO is taking in the sendoff to one of their biggest hits.
In a quick TV Guidechat, Thrones star Liam Cunningham, a.k.a. Ser Davos Seaworth, hinted quite strongly that fans shouldn't expect any new episodes before 2019. "[The episodes are] definitely going to be bigger and what I hear is longer," he said Thursday. "We're filming right up until the summer. When you think about it, up until last season we'd have six months to do ten episodes, so we're [doing] way more than that for six episodes. So that obviously will translate into longer episodes."
Cunningham's "right up until the summer" revelation places the final season of Thrones—its shortest yet at just six episodes—somewhere in the general vicinity of a 2019 premiere, meaning now is as good a time as any to completely rid yourself of 2018 wishes and just accept the inevitable.
Cunningham added that he's not sure when, exactly, shooting will wrap due to the possibility of being killed off early in the season. "You basically put your life on hold when you start shooting," he explained. "Yeah, HBO owns your ass."
Last month, we learned that the final Thrones episodes could set HBO back a whopping $15 million each. Presumably, that's more than enough money to secure a Larry David cameo.
