Tyrese Airs Out Fast Family Drama With The Rock on IG

What’s up guys Frazier here for Complex News. Fast 8 just dropped this past spring and yet somehow the follow-up, Fast 9, is already beset by behind-the-scenes drama. As you’ll recall, the family vibes of the Fast crew took a hit during Fate of the Furious, when The Rock posted a Gram saluting his “always professional female co-star”...but railing against some unnamed but unprofessional male “candy asses” he had to work with. The internet quickly assigned Vin Diesel to be Dwayne’s target, and while it was never explicitly confirmed the story went on to dominate media coverage and even the narrative surrounding the finished movie: notice, Rock’s Luke Hobbs and Vin’s Dom Toretto don’t physically share many scenes if any in Fate.   Fast 9 may be on the precipice of a similar fate, no pun intended, in some new set drama once again involving The Rock. Only this time, his silence ism the source of the issue. Co-Star Tyrese Gibson, who plays wisecracking charmer Roman Pearce, flooded Johnson’s Instagram with not one, but TWO posts appealing to him to return his calls. Apparently it boils down to this: Universal is rumored to be fast-tracking a spin-off film for Johnson’s badass government agent Luke Hobbs. Which is cool and all, only, it would mean delaying the scheduled Fast 9, which already has a release date set for April 19 2019. That isn’t sitting well with Tyrese, who’s been trying to reach Johnson to discuss a way the Hobbs movie can happen without delaying Fast 9. But it seems like Dwayne isn’t answering. “I’m on your timeline cause you’re not responding to my text messages. #FastFamily is just that, a family. We don’t fly solo.” Tyrese wrote in a since-deleted IG post. He didn’t stop there. He posted a second, bible-length message on IG again, going in further detail. “I’m simply trying to reach him cause he won’t call me back about this solo #HobbsMovie I want you to shoot it just not right now cause the #Fast9 release date has already been announced and we can’t let our loyal fans #FastFamily or our loyal fast and furious FANS down on any level from pushing the date…….. Didn’t you see how HUGE #Fast8 was? It’s because we announced and KEPT our release date bro.” The posts contain hilarious asides like “I don’t do email bruh” and a comment about not liking Baywatch but taking his daughter and her friends to see Moana, to prove how much love he has for all of The ROck’s endeavor. He also says he’ll delete once he gets a call, so, since they’ve been deleted, maybe the issue was already resolved? This isn’t even the only source of contention heading into Fast 9. Series OG Michelle Rodriguez recently said if the script for the next movie doesn’t quote “show love to women” then she might walk. Apparently the last few movies haven’t quite passed the Bechdel Test by Michelle’s standards. Anyway as Tyrese pointed out, Fate of the Furious had a release date and was delivered on time. And while that film wasn’t close to being my favorite in the series, it’d be a shame if some behind-the-scenes drama delayed the next installment of family and physics-defying action stunts. That’s the news for now but for the latest on the Fate of Fast 9 subscribe to Complex News on YouTube. For Complex I’m Frazier.
