Bill Cosby turned 80 years old yesterday, and he asked Twitter for a birthday present: kindness. He wanted his followers to do something “kind for someone else today,” which is, at least in theory, a perfectly fine thing for an 80 year old comedian and actor to ask for.

But in recent years Cosby’s reputation has been severely damaged after as many as 50 women accused him of sexual assault. Many of the accusations have passed the statute of limitations, and therefore cannot be brought to trial, however Cosby has confessed to having sex with teenagers and paying off victims. Just recently, Cosby was on trial for the 2004 alleged assault of Andrea Constand, a former Temple University employee. The case ended in a mistrial on June 17, but a retrial has already been set for November of this year.
The seriousness of these allegations are at the forefront of anyone’s mind whenever Cosby is mentioned nowadays, so what might have once been an innocent tweet turned into a social media field day when people started pointing out the tweet’s hypocrisy. Plus, it’s hard to believe the 80 year old actually tweeted that out himself, as he is reportedly blind. So if you feel a tinge of pity for Cosby, don’t worry about it, because someone on his team really should’ve seen this coming.
