After shuttering nearly two years ago, T.I.’s failed restaurant Scales 925 continues to be a financial burden.
According to TMZ, the Atlanta rapper has reached a settlement with a group of former employees who claim they were not properly compensated for their work at Scales 925. Nine out of the 11 plaintiffs will each receive $8,333.33 in unpaid wages; T.I. has also agreed to cough up $25,000 in legal fees, meaning he will pay a total of around $100,000 for this case. It is unclear what kind of deal—if any—T.I. reached with the other two plaintiffs.
Back in February, it was reported that the 37-year-old rapper/actor settled a hefty lawsuit with former Scales 925 employees who also alleged unpaid wages. Avery Lee, Kyle Vargas, Khori Vargas, and Shawn Yarborough filed a class action lawsuit against T.I., his business partner Charles Hughes, and Scales 925 Atlanta, claiming they never received their overtime pay. T.I. agreed to pay a total of $78,000 to the group of ex-employees, covering their legal fees, damages, as well as their unpaid wages.
Last month, The Blastreported Scales 925 had filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy, after the Georgia Department of Revenue and IRS placed the restaurant on notice. The outlet reported that the filing appeared to be a result of the pending lawsuits against the eatery. T.I. has continued to deny any wrongdoing, insisting he was not involved with the restaurant's day-to-day operations.
Earlier this month, it was reported that T.I. asked for a $775,000 lawsuit filed by Atlanta jewelers Aydin & Co. to be dismissed. The company accused the rapper of failing to pay off his debt. The rapper filed a motion May 18, arguing he did not breach a contract with Aydin; and, even if he did, T.I. claims the lawsuit is barred by the statute of limitations.
