Joey Badass on Becoming a Dad: 'It's a Life-Changer'

Joey Badass stopped by the 'Open Late' studio to chop it up with host Peter Rosenberg about the birth of his daughter Indigo, '1999,' and rap's newest wave.

Joey Badass, whose debut 2012 mixtape finally made its way to streaming services this week, joined host Peter Rosenberg on the latest chapter of the Complex original series Open LateThursday.

As promised, Badass kicked off his Rosenberg one-on-one with some news of the fatherhood variety. "It's amazing, bro," Badass said when asked how the birth of his daughter, Indigo Rain, has changed him. "Honestly, to say the least, it's a life-changer for sure. To just see this little human that you participated in, you co-created with someone, to see, like, you. She's like my little twin. It's honestly the most heartwarming thing that's ever happened to me and it happens literally every time I look in her eyes. It's a great feeling, bro. I love it."

When Rosenberg complimented the name, Badass attributed it to her parents' hippie sensibilities. "She got some hippie parents," he said. Catch the full discussion, which also touches on Badass' sit-down with Lil Yachty and the aforementioned 1999, up top.

The consistent Mr. Robot scene-stealer dropped off his All-Amerikkkan Badass album, featuring the singles "Devastated" and "Land of the Free," via Pro Era last year. In April, Badass said work was almost finished on the follow-up. Next month, Badass will join Flatbush Zombies and the Underachievers for the 4th Annual Steez Day Festival in New York.
