J. Cole's Recent Social Media Activity Seems to Signal Imminent New Music (UPDATE)

Cole fans are on red alert.

UPDATED 4:30 p.m ET: J. Cole has revealed that he's playing a show in New York City tonight at 6 p.m., and that it'll be on a first come, first served basis. The show will be held at the Gramercy Theatre and no phones, cameras, or bags will be permitted. Additionally, there will be no press or guest list, meaning it's a fans-only event.

J. Cole has made a few notable changes to his online presence.

At the time of this writing, Cole had changed his Twitter profile pic, background, and Instagram avatar to this:

As far as posts go, there was nothing new to speak of as of Monday. Cole's most recent tweet was a link to the Royce da 5'9" video he directed back in March. His Instagram is currently post-free.

Speaking with Complex surrounding the track's initial release, Royce said "Boblo Boat" was part of the "greatest piece of work" in his career. "I put everything I had into this album (spiritually, mentally, physically, and financially) and am excited to finally share it with the world," he said.

Over the weekend, a new J. Cole verse appeared in an ESPN commercial for the NBA playoffs.

Cole's most recent full-length studio project was 2016's 4 Your Eyez Only, his first through Interscope. The 10-track follow-up to 2014 Forest Hills Drive featured the singles "Neighbors," "Deja Vu," and "Change." The RIAA-certified platinum album was also supported by an HBO documentary of the same name and extensive touring.

I'm no expert, but all signs point to something new from Cole very soon.
