In the wake of Lil Pump’s decision to do away with Xanax use in 2018, he has unfortunately decided to develop a new activity in lieu of the drug. The young rapper is now promoting “lean pong,” an unholy mixture of beer pong and the popular Houston concoction. “Listen up y’all, we playing lean pong 2018,” Lil Pump said Monday, via social media. "Poured up a whole four in the jar. Gotta fill up all the cups. 2018 lean pong.” The "Gucci Gang" rapper, who appears to be an avid consumer of the mixture, came under fire for the problematic imagery of lean in his music video, where Pump can be seen serving students.

Chicago rapper Famous Dex, who was hospitalized in November after consuming an excess of promethazine and codeine, swore off the concoction. “If I'm your role model, then stop fucking doing the lean,” the emcee said over Instagram Live in November. “I just want to let my Live know, all my fans know, I quit codeine. I don’t do the lean no more. That’s on my kids. You’ll never ever see me with a double cup. It fucked me up. I’m in the hospital right now. But I feel so better. I feel so good. God is so good. That’s why y’all haven’t been seeing me do no music. I been fucked up.”

Wiz Khalifa also took a stand against the substance, calling lean “lame” and encouraging those who don’t bother with it to feel “empowered” instead. The deaths of ASAP Yams, DJ Screw, and Pimp C were all found to be linked to the consumption of promethazine and codeine.
