T.I.'s Sexist Comments About Women Who 'Lie' About Rape Are Troubling

T.I.'s thoughts follow the arrest this weekend of Nelly, who was accused of rape.

Today in things that will probably not end well, T.I. has decided now is the time to share some sexist thoughts on women who come forward with rape allegations. In a troubling one-minute clip shared across his social media platforms Sunday night, T.I. wondered aloud about the consequences of making what he considers to be unfounded rape claims while referencing previous cases involving 2Pac and Mike Tyson.

"I'm just sitting here thinking, after Mike Tyson, after mothafuckin' 2Pac, after all the other motherfuckers who done been with girls and the girls got made for whatever reason and left off and said that they raped them or whatnot, what the fuck ever happen when a motherfucker find out that the bitch was lying?" T.I. asked. "What consequences is there for this young lady?"

T.I. is also of the opinion that certain people are targeted for such claims. Watch the full (and probably soon-to-be-deleted) clip below.

Statistically, the scenario T.I. is presenting here is extremely uncommon. Only between two and 10 percent of all reports are estimated to be fabricated. Additionally, as Quartzreported in May, a false allegation ending in prison time is "exceedingly rare." Murder exonerations (790) in the U.S., for example, have far outpaced sexual assault exonerations (52) since the National Registry of Exonerations started keeping records back in 1989.

T.I.'s clip arrives on the heels of Nelly being arrested over the weekend for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman on his tour bus. "Let me say that I am beyond shocked that I have been targeted with this false allegation," Nelly said. "I am completely innocent. I am confident that once the facts are looked at , it will be very clear that I am the victim of a false allegation." Nelly was ultimately released the same day with no charges.

Though T.I. doesn't mention Nelly by name in the clip, Akon—when asked by TMZ at the airport Sunday—said he believes Nelly is innocent. "He's an amazing person, man," he said. "I just know how scary these type of situations can be. I'm almost 100 percent positive he's innocent."
