Yikes: Kate Middleton Wears Green to Time's Up-Themed Ceremony

"The Royal Family very rarely get involved in political messaging, so perhaps it's not such a surprise that she didn't join in with the rest of the women and wear black tonight."

When a dress code is enacted to support a cause like sexual assault awareness, in today's political climate, even the subtlest fashion statements are amplified.

According to TMZ, Kate Middleton swapped out an all-black outfit for a green dress at the Time's Up-themed British Academy Film Awards ceremony this weekend. Her date, Prince William, showed up in a classic black-and-white tuxedo combination.

Other Hollywood stars including Angelina Jolie, Margot Robbie, Jennifer Lawrence, Naomie Harris, Lupita Nyong'o, Salma Hayek, and Octavia Spencer attended the awards ceremony in black to express solidarity with the #MeToo movement against sexual harassment and violence.

It's highly doubtful that the Duchess of Cambridge didn't receive the memo. Instead, her wardrobe choice was likely dodging a political statement.

"The Royal Family very rarely get involved in political messaging, so perhaps it's not such a surprise that she didn't join in with the rest of the women and wear black tonight," The Telegraph fashion news and features director Bethan Holt explained to BBC News.

While the criticism is expected, Jezebelpoints out that Middleton has fundraised in the past for similar causes, such as maternal depression, supporting children with cancer, and supporting children with drug and alcohol-addicted parents.

Meanwhile, other celebrities have been using their platforms to discuss the broader issue of sexual harassment and violence beyond just the entertainment industry. Actress Viola Davis opened up about her own trauma and how it relates to #MeToo. Additionally, USA Gymnastics started their own fund for gymnasts who have been sexually abused.
