Every time my faith in humanity rises, some idiot asshole comes right along and ruins everything. I don't even know why I try anymore. The reason my spirit is feeling attacked at this moment is that two 14-year-old (14!) black girls in Nevada are enduring a ridiculous amount of hate from their classmates. Jayla Tolliver and Taylissa Marriot are stepsisters attending Yerington High School, where they've been dealing with ceaseless racist vitriol.

According to the Huffington Post, the girls allegedly received death threats via Snapchat. The messages show a shirtless white male posing with knives and a shotgun, with the messages, "The redneck god of all gods 'we bout to go n***er huntin'" and "Porch monkeys here I come." In an interview with the Reno Gazette Journal, local county Sheriff Alvin McNeil identified the male pictured in the Snapchat messages as the son of one of his deputies, but reportedly only called the messages a "foolish mistake."

But it doesn't end there. Another classmate wrote, "If y'all get offended over words such as n***er or porch monkey then you just need to learn to grow the fuck up and quit being such a libtarted piece of shit. That's all I gotta say to you n***ers." On top of that, Tolliver’s Snapchat was hacked by yet another loser, who sent out a message to all of her contacts that read, "I like to fuck boys on quads and I am the biggest and most hated slut in Yerington."

Her father, Charles Tolliver, said he and his wife have complained to various figures of authority—school officials, the Department of Education, and local police—to no avail.

"I know kids can be mean and it happens," he told the Huffington Post, "but we've tried to go in and talk to the principal, vice principal, and everyone else and they've done nothing."

Police Chief Darren Wagner seemed to back up that claim. "I wouldn’t have investigated if a black child posted a picture saying he was going cracker hunting," Wagner told the Reno Gazette Journal. "I am sick of everyone saying we did something wrong. We can't police bad behavior."

The girls and their parents have filed a lawsuit against the city of Yerington and the school district. "This is not a problem where we're seeking damages for a bad thing that has happened," Reno attorney Terri Keyser-Cooper told the Huffington Post. "We're seeking to stop the conduct. It's ongoing and I'm now considering filing for a restraining order."
