Despite the fact that words are not exactly his forte, Trump never fails to offend in 280 characters or less. In the latest edition of TF Did Trump Say?!, the President took aim at Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) in a crazy suggestive tweet, where he implied she would perform sexual favors in exchange for campaign money. There's really no other way to read it:
If this isn't erroneous slut-shaming at its very finest, I don't know what is. When Trump says Gillibrand had been "disloyal" to the Clintons, he is of course referring to the statement she made last month where she said President Clinton should have resigned over the Lewinsky scandal. (It's worth noting that Gillibrand took over Hillary Clinton's Senate seat at the end of her term.)
Trump's tweet could not be more tone-deaf in the wake of the tidal wave of sexual misconduct allegations both in and outside of Washington, but that's not to say we didn't see it coming. Yesterday, Senator Gillibrand called on the President to resign over multiple allegations of sexual assault. Her statement came the same day that three of Trump's accusers held a press conference detailing instances where the President groped, forcibly kissed, fondled, and/or harassment.
Gillibrand dealt with Trump's offensive comments with enviable grace, tweeting, "You cannot silence me or the millions of women who have gotten off the sidelines to speak out about the unfitness and shame you have brought to the Oval Office."
Twitter also had some less graceful, albeit on-point thoughts about Trump's latest.
Today, 59 Congresswomen are demanding that the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform investigate the claims against the President.
